13 Sticky Notes
Please help me sort through these 13 sticky notes!
Click on the sticky part of a note (the top) to grab it. It will display its detailed rules.
Respect all the rules and place each of the notes on the numbered grid.
This game was made for the 2025 edition of The Confounding Calendar!
General rules
- Every note has to be in the grid. Don't worry about exact placement, the game doesn't check anything.
- Not every row can be filled, but empty spaces have to be on the right of each row.
- You'll know when you're done, if you think you're done there might still be something to do.
- Normal left click is all you need, but you can press the R key to reset the position of the notes.
- Everything can be deduced, you don't have to guess or back solve.
Glossary
Go experiment with the game now, but if you find something ambiguous, hopefully the answer is here. Generally, think of the positions on the grid.
- Rows and Columns are numbered from top to bottom, left to right.
- NEAR: means around on the grid, including diagonals, as in the 3x3 cells around it.
- NEXT TO: means to the left or to the right, on the same row.
- BEFORE / AFTER: related to the numbers on the cells. They can be empty cells in between, and be on different rows. For example, if Circle is directly after Triangle, and Triangle is on cell 5 (end of first row), then Circle is on cell 6 (start of second row)
- LEFT / RIGHT: imagine a column, the note will be to the left / right of it, irrespective of the row or cell number. Same thing with OVER and UNDER.
- For descriptions of drawings, only pay attention to what you can see. If you're unsure about what is what, scroll down to see the list.
Hints
- 13 notes means there will always be 2 empty spaces.
- Inanimate objects and plants aren't animals. Mollusks are animals... monsters too.
- There are two sources of smoke.
- Don't forget the Mallet's rule.
- You don't have to know scrabble dictionary words, just common stuff.

Trying to solve it always leads to a contradiction:
(I have done the first step and already know that: navznyf ner ylvat)

It does, yes.
I knew it is supposed to be “qb furyg…”, but what rule does “qfburyg…” violate? (rkpunatvat znyyrg naq obbx) Is this the direct next step after “uvg”? Also, jura fbzrguvat vf tbar, ehyrf eryngrq gb gung vgrz whfg trg vtaberq?
For the first question: Gur Znyyrg pna'g or va gur fnzr pbyhza nf gur Bjy.
Second one: Yup!
Oh my oh my what a fun puzzle! Really challenging and has implicit things to look out for towards the end, but VERY enjoyable altogether!
Quite amazing how far beyond a run-of-the-mill Einstein puzzle this is.

it normally shouldn't come to this 😭
What does "Animals are telling the truth" mean? Truth (or untruth) is not defined anywhere.
You can overall ignore things that don't seem relevant, and just follow the rules. So "animals are telling the truth" doesn't mean non-animals are lying for example.
For a more clear answer (rot13):
"Navznyf ner gryyvat gur gehgu" vfa'g eryrinag ng svefg ohg pbzrf vagb cynl yngre. Vs fbzrguvat qbrfa'g znxr frafr lbh pna nffhzr vg'f hfrq yngre.
Nsgre gung, yvrf ner jung lbh'q rkcrpg V thrff, fb n yvne fnlvat "V'z ba ebj 1" zrnaf vg'f abg ba ebj 1.
I found it so hard to narrow down what could go where, but the discoveries were totally worth persevering! What a cleverly constructed game.
What does the mallet mean when it mentions a tree?
OK, I just found out.
